Plot
At first glance, Lucas is like any other French high school student—weekend parties, casual hookups, the constant search for identity. Yet beneath his carefree exterior lies a boy burdened by family struggles, a religious mother, and his own denial about his sexuality.

Everything changes when Eliott, a charming and eccentric transfer student, enters his life. From stolen glances in the classroom to late-night conversations over music and cigarettes, Lucas finds himself drawn to Eliott in ways he can’t ignore. Still, fear of labels and rejection pushes him into denial: he dates a girl, plays the role of “straight,” and tries to bury his growing desire.
But Eliott isn’t just a romantic distraction—he becomes the catalyst for Lucas to confront who he truly is. Their love story, punctuated by piano serenades, secret parties, and intense emotional confrontations, mirrors the pain and joy of queer adolescence. Season 3 ultimately portrays a boy’s journey from fear and shame to self-acceptance, while spotlighting the importance of mental health, friendship, and love as redemption.

Skam France Season 3 Review
Review

As someone who watched the Norwegian original, I didn’t expect Skam France to resonate so strongly—but Season 3 completely won me over. It’s not a copy-paste remake; it’s a reimagining that injects French sensibility and style.
Lucas isn’t a carbon copy of Isak (the Norwegian lead). He’s more proactive, sometimes even reckless in his pursuit of Eliott. His impulsive decision to chase Eliott through hallways or pour his heart into a piano performance shows a teenage courage that’s both inspiring and heartbreaking. Eliott, meanwhile, feels lighter and more playful than Even—less enigmatic, more youthful, yet equally magnetic. Together, they form “Elu,” a couple whose energy feels both fresh and deeply authentic.
The show also deserves credit for how it tackles LGBTQ+ stigma and stereotypes. Lucas’s online obsession with “straightness tests” and his fear of being labeled reflect real struggles queer teens face, not just in France but everywhere. By showing that masculinity, interests, or appearance don’t define sexuality, the writers dismantle harmful clichés with sensitivity.
Visually, Skam France delivers what I can only call “French cinematic flair”—the urban backdrops, warm lighting, and intimacy of Parisian youth culture bring a new layer of romance. Yes, the plot sometimes rushes, but the emotional core remains intact. Few remakes have managed to capture the heart of Skam while making it their own; this one absolutely did.
